The County of Chester sought to construct improvements at four existing County parks through the use of Open Space Bond Funds. They also wanted to develop several new County parks and recreation facilities, including the Schuylkill River Trail, the Black Rock Wetlands and Interpretive Trail, and the Chester Valley Trail where the team was requested to design a segment of the Chester Valley Trail within the high-profile Main Street at Exton development project. The design needed to be integrated with the unique development based on a "Main Street, USA" concept.
The Approach
Under this open-end contract, McCormick Taylor prepares RFPs, manages contracts of other consultants, and performs general project monitoring, coordination and administrative tasks throughout the planning, design and construction phases of these projects and additional projects that may arise during the course of the contract.
The Result
This multifaceted, long-term project involves a wide array of services that require creative solutions, collaborative planning and pragmatic timing. Specifically, to meet the challenges of the Chester Valley Trail in Exton, the design was fast-tracked to meet the scheduled completion of the large retail and office community. McCormick Taylor represented the County in acquiring all necessary Township approvals and the trail was constructed, designed and permitted in under 12 months.
The success of these projects — recreation facilities and interconnecting trails — demonstrates the commitment that McCormick Taylor has for parks and recreation, offering land use solutions that create opportunities for citizens who truly use the land.
