THE SR 299, SR 1 TO CATHERINE STREET WIDENING PROJECT EARNS NATIONAL RECOGNITION

The SR 299, SR 1 to Catherine Street Widening Project was one of two projects recognized as part of the 2025 America’s Transportation Awards Competition. The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) won the contest’s People’s Choice Award for the project – receiving the honor at the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) Annual Meeting. McCormick Taylor is proud to have worked closely with DelDOT as the prime design consultant on this transformative project.

ABOUT THE PROJECT

The SR 299, SR 1 to Catherine Street Project widens the approximately two-mile roadway, improves traffic capacity and operations along the corridor and side roads; adds transit, pedestrian, and bicycle facilities; and improves safety.

AWARDS COMPETITION

The road to the national competition began at the regional level, where projects were judged by size. DelDOT’s SR 299 project won a regional award in the Medium Category ($10M–$99M) at the Northeast Association of State Transportation Officials Conference. As one of the region’s three highest-scoring projects, it advanced to the national “Top 12,” where the finalists competed for the Grand Prize and the People’s Choice Award.

The People’s Choice Award winner was selected through online voting, therefore, celebrating a project that resonates with the public. Receiving this honor highlights the strong support and high visibility the SR 299 Project has achieved across its community.

As the winner, DelDOT receives a $10,000 cash award for a charity or transportation-related scholarship of their choosing. Congratulations to DelDOT and all our project partners on receiving this well-deserved national recognition.
