KATRINA BUDISCHAK, PE, AICP

Project Manager, Transportation Planning

  • What’s something someone would be surprised to learn about you?

I can play the sousaphone. Although I wish that it was more convenient of an instrument to carry around!

  • Where’s the most interesting place you’ve been?

I look most forward to visiting my friend and college roommate again in the Canary Islands. She grew up there and spending time with her and seeing such a unique place through her eyes was amazing. I don’t know how she ever left it for Georgia Tech!

  • What are three things you can’t live without?

I can’t live without my family (Nathan, Lily, and Dean), chocolate, and my bicycle.

Bio

As both a Professional Engineer (PE) and an American Institute Certified Planner (AICP), Katrina serves as an important bridge between the planning and engineering groups at McCormick Taylor. Many of the projects Katrina leads involve strong public outreach campaigns, where she listens to community needs and helps ensure those perspectives are communicated to the  engineering team. “I’ve heard the term ‘plangineer’ thrown around a lot,” Katrina says.

Katrina brings over 14 years of experience in transportation engineering, including 5 years with McCormick Taylor. As a Project Manager she enjoys working with a variety of different teams and staff across the company. “I get to work on cool projects with a lot of great colleagues,” Katrina said. “The people at McCormick Taylor make work enjoyable and fun!”

Unsurprisingly, McCormick Taylor’s annual Employee Recognition Dinner (ERD), a gathering where the entire company and their families come together to enjoy dinner and drinks, is one of Katrina’s favorite parts of the year. Katrina says she particularly enjoys “getting to see all my favorite colleagues together in one place.”

Katrina is currently working on two shared-use path projects, one in New Jersey and another in Maryland, that connect neighborhoods to major destinations and provide users with alternative transportation options beyond cars. She says that making important places more accessible to those without a car is an important and rewarding process.

Outside of work, Katrina enjoys exploring new trails, cycling, playing cards, and gardening. She says she’d like to learn how to play tennis well, as it seems like a sport she would enjoy, but hasn’t found the time to get good enough.
