McCormick Taylor’s Sustainability Committee strives to reduce our impact on the environment and attain equal access to healthy air, water, and land through the adoption of workplace sustainable practices and source reduction initiatives, education of our employees on environmentally sound practices, and involvement in community greening events.
The Committee recently requested funds from McCormick Taylor’s Charity Committee for The Schuylkill Center, which inspires meaningful connections between people and nature. The Center uses their forests and fields as a living laboratory to foster appreciation, deepen understanding, and encourage stewardship of the environment. The Center hosts regular events (now virtual) to encourage and create a world where all people play, learn, and grow with nature.
“The Sustainability Committee selected the Schuylkill Center for Environmental Education because it fits our overall mission statement,” said Val Barraclough, member of the Sustainability Committee. “Promoting this type of education early can have lasting effects on our community's overall sustainable efforts and be beneficial to the land and wildlife.”
The funds will support the conservation of the city’s largest privately-owned tract of land. Located in Northwest Philadelphia, this land protects native flora and habitat, and the streams that originate on the Schuylkill Center’s land feed into the Schuylkill River, the source of drinking water for the Philadelphia area.
