ABOUT THE AWARD

APA Delaware’s “Outstanding Planning Project Award” recognizes exemplary planning initiatives that advance best practices, strengthen community engagement, and meaningfully support smart, sustainable growth. Winning projects demonstrate a high level of professional quality, creativity, and the ability to bring diverse stakeholders together to achieve shared goals.

This year’s award acknowledges the complex and collaborative nature of the Sussex County Land Use Reform Working Group effort and the long-term benefits it will bring to the county.

 ABOUT THE PROJECT

Through a task order under McCormick Taylor’s ongoing planning contract with Sussex County, our team supported the facilitation, technical analysis, and documentation for the Land Use Reform Working Group, a county-led initiative aimed at addressing longstanding land use challenges. The Working Group represented a broad and diverse mix of voices, including members of the agricultural, environmental, development, housing, and engineering communities, along with state and county agencies. McCormick Taylor helped guide the group through a collaborative, transparent process, turning complex land use issues into a set of clear, consensus-driven recommendations. These recommendations provide Sussex County with a framework for updating policies, refining planning tools, and guiding future land use decisions.
